HASSL Joins the Aware and Prepared Podcast

Today, HASSL founder Amy Watson joined Mandi Pratt on the Aware and Prepared Podcast for a powerful discussion about harassment, prevention, and building safer communities.

In this episode, Amy shared her personal journey - from witnessing everyday harassment to reaching a breaking point and deciding to build HASSL - and explored why we must move away from simply telling women how to “stay safe” and start fixing the systems that make them unsafe in the first place.

The conversation covered:

  • Why HASSL was created to address the root causes of public harassment.
  • How many current safety tools unintentionally shift the burden onto women.
  • HASSL’s five-part approach: public space design, awareness, systemic misogyny, reporting barriers, and more.
  • How society minimises or normalises harassment - and why that has to change.
  • The importance of involving men as allies in creating safer spaces.
  • Why prevention must come before response.
  • The parallels between Amy’s mission and Mandi’s own journey of reclaiming safety after trauma.

This conversation matters because podcasts like Aware and Prepared reach audiences who are already engaged in conversations about safety, resilience, and justice - and give us the chance to offer a prevention-first, systemic lens on these issues. It’s an opportunity to show that harassment is not inevitable and that cultural change is possible when society takes shared responsibility.

Appearing on this podcast is a key part of Stage 3 of our five-stage plan: scaling education, deepening cultural awareness, and inviting more people, including men, into the conversation about what safety could look like if we built it together.
