HASSL Taking Action in Northern Ireland - The Most Dangerous Place in Europe for Women

HASSL travelled to Northern Ireland - a region with some of the highest rates of violence against women in Europe, to deepen partnerships, deliver training, and strengthen connections that will shape future initiatives across the UK and beyond.

During the visit, we recorded a powerful podcast with Jason Lear, sat down with Glow NI and Relate NI, and delivered workplace training focused on harassment awareness and bystander intervention. Each of these moments helped us share HASSL’s five-stage model, gather regional insights, and explore how to embed our work into existing support systems.

Connections in Northern Ireland matter deeply to our mission. The region faces unique challenges around gender-based violence and systemic misogyny, but it’s also home to a growing network of charities, educators, and advocates who are ready to take action. By building partnerships here, we’re learning directly from the people on the front lines - ensuring that our initiatives remain practical, locally informed, and impactful.

These relationships will also play a critical role in Stage 3 of our five-stage plan: scaling education and cultural change through collaboration. Northern Ireland’s organisations bring the expertise, community reach, and insight needed to help us test, adapt, and expand our initiatives before taking them global.

This trip marks a key step in developing strategic partnerships that will shape our next stage - embedding HASSL’s approach into schools, workplaces, and public services across the UK and Ireland.
